Volleyball Begins Busy WCC Week with Loss at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. — Santa Clara volleyball began a stretch of three matches in five days with a three-set loss at Pacific on Tuesday night. The Tigers defeated the Broncos 25-20, 25-18, 25-20 at the Alex G. Spanos Center in a West Coast Conference matchup.

Pacific's offense was on point throughout the night; The Tigers (6-8, 1-2 WCC) hit .350 for the match and had at least a .310 hitting percentage in all three sets. Kaitlyn Lines racked up 18 kills on .486 hitting and Riley Ramsey had 10 kills on .529 hitting.

Allison Kantor turned in another strong performance for the Broncos (5-9, 0-2 WCC), netting 12 kills on an efficient .476 hitting. Alexa Dreyer led all players with 6.0 blocks.

The Tigers won nine straight points early in the first set to take a 10-2 lead; they trailed for only one point of the match when the Broncos led 2-1 prior to that spree. Santa Clara battled back to pull within a point at 19-18, before Pacific used a 4-1 run en route to finishing off the stanza.

Lines caught fire in the second frame, totaling eight kills on nine attempts with no attacking errors (.889 hitting). She had four straight kills for Pacific as part of a 9-2 run that gave the hosts a 17-8 lead.

Pacific led for all but three points of the second and third frames. The Tigers had a 6-2 advantage early in the third and held off a Santa Clara rally by winning the last three points of the match to clinch their fifth straight victory in the series. Kantor had six kills on 12 attempts in the last set.

NEXT UP

Santa Clara hosts Loyola Marymount on Thursday at 7 p.m. and Pepperdine Saturday at 1 p.m. for their first WCC homes matches of the season.

NOTES

  • The Tigers lead the all-time series 28-9.
  • The Broncos returned three players from injury. Liliana Light played for the first time since Sept. 14 (missed three matches) while Anna McCreadie and Kathryn Decker played for the first time since Sept. 1 (missed six matches).
  • Kantor has double-digit kills in four of the last six matches.
  • Dreyer has multiple blocks in seven of the last eight matches.
