Offense Leads the Way in No. 9 Women's Soccer's Win at San Francisco

Box Score

SAN FRANCISCO – Heading into the final stretch of the season, No. 9 Santa Clara women's soccer stayed unbeaten in West Coast Conference play with a convincing 4-0 win at San Francisco on Saturday afternoon.

The Broncos (6-1, 6-0 WCC) were on it from the start and showed why they have one of the highest-scoring offenses in the country. Santa Clara put up 20 shots with eight going on target and put pressure on the Dons (2-4-2, 1-4-1 WCC) defense all day.

Kelsey Turnbow and Izzy D'Aquila both stepped up and led the offensive charge. Turnbow scored a goal and added an assist with D'Aquila also finding the back of the net. Turnbow now has a goal in every but one game and at least one point in every match. Freshman Sally Menti also got in on the action, scoring her first collegiate goal.

Santa Clara's offense got going with a bit of a gift from the San Francisco defense in the 12th minute. Julie Doyle's cross was right at Samantha Curwood-Wagner who tried to hit it out of the air but didn't square it up and the ball went inside the right post for an own goal.

Turnbow struck again soon after in the 13th on a beautiful shot. Alex Loera sent a long ball to Turnbow who controlled it and got inside the box before sending a high shot that hit off the Molly Ebby's hands and found its way into the back of the net.

D'Aquila got in on the action to make it 3-0 in the 24th. Turnbow used some fancy footwork on the edge of the box, even making a Dons defender fall down, before lobbing a high ball that D'Aquila got a head on and snuck in just under the crossbar.

In the 51st minute, a free kick from just outside the box was taken by Menti who placed it perfectly inside the left post and just under the crossbar.

Marlee Nicolos started and made four saves with Kylie Foutch making two off the bench. Ebby picked up five saves for the Dons.
