Second Half Goal Sinks No. 9 Women's Soccer vs. No. 3 Virginia

HARRISONBURG, Va. – In a battle of top-10 teams that were both in the 2020 College Cup, No. 3 Virginia's second half goal was enough to top No. 9 Santa Clara women's soccer 1-0 Thursday night on the campus of James Madison.

The lone goal of the match was scored by Lia Godfrey in the 70th minute off a free kick. Her right-footed shot got in the top left of the goal.

The Broncos (2-1-2) managed 10 shots and were able to get four on target but never got one past Cavaliers (5-0) keeper Laurel Ivory.

Ivory finished the night with four saves.

Marlee Nicolos managed two saves with Virginia firing off 11 total shots.

NOTES

  • Santa Clara is now 2-5-1 all-time against Virginia.
  • Kelsey Turnbow remains in sixth place in career goals with 49, behind No. 5 Mikka Hansen and her 52 goals. She is in a tie with Nikki Serlenga for 10th all-time at Santa Clara with 27 assists. Next is Osborne with 34. Turnbow is also at 123 points, which is seventh. Next is Aly Wagner's 127.
