Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. – For the second time in three days, Lindsey VanAllen set a career-high in scoring to help lead Santa Clara women's basketball to victory, this time an 83-78 win over San Francisco.
VanAllen, who set a career-high with 27 against Pepperdine on Thursday, scored a new career-high 28 on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor and was 9-of-11 from the free throw line while also adding five rebounds.
She stepped up big in the third quarter as the Broncos (8-4, 2-0 WCC) found themselves down a game-high seven points with five minutes left in the period. After that point, VanAllen scored 11, giving her 13 for the quarter, including a pair of 3-pointers, the first of which put Santa Clara on top for good at the 2:30 mark.
The Broncos finished the night with nine 3-pointers and shot 39.7-percent from the field while the Dons (6-10, 0-4 WCC) shot 48.2-percent and hit 10 triples. Santa Clara made up for the difference in shooting percentage on the offensive glass and off turnovers. They had 14 offensive boards while allowing just five and used that to a 12-5 advantage in second chance points. They also committed just eight turnovers, their second game in a row in single digits, while forcing 12, and having a 14-2 edge in points off miscues.
Merle Wiehl also had a big night, scoring 18, including three 3-pointers, while pulling down a game-high nine rebounds. Danja Stafford scored 11, including a huge triple late in the game, her first of the season, to shutdown a Dons 6-0 run that had made it just a two-point game with under two minutes to go.
That run was all courtesy of Jasmine Gayles, who scored eight in a row for San Francisco in the third and finished the night with 28 on 10-of-16 shooting and six rebounds.
Gayles also scored seven in the second quarter when the Dons moved in front for the first time. At the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second, they scored 12 in a row to go on top 28-26 with 7:35 left in the half and were up three at the break.
Ioanna Krimili was big in the second quarter as well, scoring 10 of her 22. Jessica McDowell-White added 12 points and Kennedy Dickie had a team-high eight rebounds while scoring six.

- Santa Clara is now 65-43 all-time against San Francisco.
- The Broncos won the battle of the boards 42-32 and collected 14 assists on 27 made shots.
- Lana Hollingsworth had a tough day shooting at 2-of-12 but still managed to come up with eight rebounds.
- The Broncos were without Lexie Pritchard who was injured at Long Beach State. A timetable for her return is uncertain. Ashlee Maldonado is also out and will miss the entire season.
