SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer swept the West Coast Conference Players of the Week honors following last Friday's 1-0 shutout victory over No.7-ranked Portland.
Adem Hamdaoua repeated as the Offensive Player of the Week while
Jack Stoecker took home the Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Hamdaoua, a senior midfielder, scored the lone goal of the game with his patented long range blast. In the 35
th minute, his game-winning shot from 23 yards from slightly off center at the top of the box screamed past the flat-footed Portland goalkeeper to the upper left 90. It was one of game-high three shots on goal for Hamdaoua. This season, he has tallied a Bronco-high four goals with each of them coming from at least 20 yards out.
A week earlier, Hamdaoua had a goal and two assists as he had a hand in all three Bronco goals in the 3-1 win over Saint Mary's in the WCC opener to earn his first WCC weekly recognition.
Goalkeeper
Jack Stoecker also earned his second weekly honor after his shutout performance over a high-powered Portland offensive side that entered the game leading the nation in scoring with a 3.25 goals per game average.
The 6-foot-6 Stoecker was credited with five saves for his second clean sheet of the season. Since he was inserted into the lineup, the Broncos are 3-0-1 and he has made 15 saves and given up two goals.
The junior from Westminster, Colorado won his first Defensive Player of the Week award back in 2021 after making 11 saves in the regular season finale against LMU in a scoreless draw in double overtime.
