Need To Know For 2023-24

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball is 3-0 and will have the chance to add two more to win column before they head off to Niceville, Fla., the week of Thanksgiving for the Emerald Coast Classic. The Broncos will host a pair of home games inside the Leavey Center in a span of three days beginning Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana.

Santa Clara is coming off their best win of the young season with an 89-77 victory in Maples Pavilion over Stanford. The Broncos were down by 12 points in the first half, but rallied on a 15-2 run, and grabbed control late in the second half to pick up their first road win over the Cardinal since 2006. Adama-Alpha Bal had the best game of his young Bronco career with 23 points, including 16 in the second half to help close out the game. Johnny O'Neil also had a major impact, finishing with a season-best 17 points and eight rebounds. He had two monster treys at the end of the 15-2 run to keep the Broncos in the running.

Carlos Marshall Jr. is the WCC's leading scorer at 22.3 points per game. He has scored 20 or more in each of the first three games, and is the first Bronco to open a season with three-straight 20-point outings since John Bryant in 2006-07.  He was the league's player of the week for the first week of action after averaging 23.5 ppg on 79.2 percent shooting in Santa Clara's first two wins.

Saturday will mark the first-ever meeting between Santa Clara and Southeastern Louisiana. The Lions are 1-2 on the year and coming off consecutive road losses at the hands of Auburn (86-71) and BYU (105-48). SLU has three players averaging north of 10.0 ppg, led by guard Roger McFarlane's 17.3 ppg. The Lions are led by fifth-year head coach David Kiefer.
