Volleyball Honors Seniors on Season's Final Day

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The Santa Clara University volleyball team celebrated three outgoing senior student-athletes Saturday in the final match of 2023 as visiting LMU grabbed a 3-0 (25-14, 25-10, 25-7) West Coast Conference victory at Leavey Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kat Georgiadis, Anna Stucchi and Sophia Tulino were all in the starting lineup Saturday for the final matches of their Santa Clara careers. Georgiadis donned the Broncos libero jersey for the final time in set three. Tulino finished with four kills, seven digs and two blocks. Stucchi notched two kills and a team-leading three blocks.

  • Santa Clara (12-16, 4-12 WCC) was still within five points in set one at 12-7, but LMU (20-6, 13-3) went on a 9-0 run to turn that score into a 21-7 advantage. The Lions only trailed once, when the Broncos scored the first point of the third set and led, 1-0.

  • LMU hit better as the match went on. The Lions hit .357 in the first set, .464 in the second and .684 in the third with only one error against 14 kills. They finished the match hitting .480 as a team.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • 6: Oren Abutbul led the team with six kills. She finished one kill shy of 200 with 199 on the year.
  • 7: Alyssa Eimer tied with Tulino for the team lead in digs with seven. She finished the year third on the team with 158 digs after taking on the starting libero job in late October.
  • 9: Nive Tuileta finished with nine assists. It was her only single-digit assists performance this year. She completed her junior season with 3,065 career assists after surpassing the 3,000 mark on Thursday at San Francisco.
