SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis inked Luca Bluett, a world top-300 junior ranked player from London, England, to a National-Letter-of-Intent on Wednesday. He will join the program for the 2024-25 season.
"I chose Santa Clara due to the incredible facilities the university has to offer, in addition to many wonderful views around campus," said Bluett. "I instantly felt at home with the team, who took great care of me on my official visit, and can really see myself thriving alongside coach Angus and Ortiz. I believe signing for SCU is what's going to take my tennis to the next step and hopefully allow me to achieve my lifetime goals. Plus, outdoor tennis every day of the year in the sun is something a Brit like me dreams of. I am extremely excited to start my journey in the fall of 2024 and join the Bronco family!"
The 5-foot-11, right-handed Bluett has achieved a career-high ITF World Junior ranking of 295. He played in the Junior Wimbledon qualifying this year and made it to the last round before falling to the 30th-ranked ITA Junior player in the world. In another tournament, Bluett went toe-to-toe against the fourth-ranked junior player in the world before losing in three sets.
He also won his first ITF junior title (J5 in Bradfield) after mounting a comeback being down 3-6, 0-3.
"I am delighted that Luca has chosen to bring his talents to Santa Clara," said Broncos head coach
Niall Angus. "He is a player with huge potential that I anticipate will play a major role in the success of our program. He has an all-court game that will lend itself extremely well to the college game in both singles and doubles and I believe there is far more to come as he develops. A credit to his parents, Luca's character was evident on his visit and I am excited to start working with him next fall!"
