Women's Basketball Picks Up Road Win at UC Riverside

Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball picked up a commanding 76-46 win over UC Riverside on the road Tuesday night to get back in the win column. The Broncos used a strong second quarter to create some distance and turned the game into a blowout in the fourth.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • After an even first quarter that saw Santa Clara (10-3) take a four-point lead, the Broncos defense turned it on in the second 10 minutes. They didn't allow Riverside (4-5) to score a point in the period until a free throw at the 3:41 mark. The Highlanders didn't make a field goal until 2:54 when Santa Clara was up 15. The Broncos went into the locker room with a 37-23 lead at the break.
  • The third quarter saw Riverside score the first five to cut the deficit to single-digits but Santa Clara would respond with a 12-2 run to stretch the lead out to 49-30 midway through the period.
  • The Broncos took care of business in the fourth, winning the period 23-10.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  •  Santa Clara shot 50.8-percent from the floor despite going just 5-of-22 from deep. From inside the arc, the Broncos were at 67.6-percent.
  • Defensively, they held Riverside to just a 28.6-percent mark and 3-of-14 from downtown. Santa Clara took advantage of 17 Highlander turnovers, turning them into 20 points.
  • The Broncos also held a 16-3 advantage in in second chance points on 12 offensive rebounds. They had a 43-32 edge on the glass overall.
  • Four Broncos were in double-figures with Olivia Pollerd's 22 leading the way. She was 9-of-14 from the field and 4-of-8 from 3-point land. Tess Heal scored 21 on 7-of-12 shooting and added five rebounds and three assists. Marya Hudgins scored 12 with seven rebounds and Lara Edmanson scored 10 with five boards. Keely Frawley pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.
  • Jordan Webster was the only Riverside player in double-figures with 16. Matehya Bryant scored eight but was just 4-of-15 from the field.
