Women's Basketball Tops Cal State Fullerton

Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball picked up its 11th nonconference win of the season at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday evening 76-57. The Broncos jumped out to an early lead and made a big halftime advantage hold up.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Santa Clara (11-3) started quick, scoring the first 13 points before Fullerton (4-6) finally got on the board with a pair of free throws at the 5:04 mark in the first quarter. The Titans missed their first seven field goals of the game over the first 6:46.
  • The Broncos lead hung around 10 for most of the second quarter until a 9-0 run to end the half stretched their lead out to 43-24.
  • The second half was much more even but Santa Clara's lead from the first half meant the Broncos came away with the comfortable 19-point win.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  •  Santa Clara shot 42.0-percent from the field and were 9-of-25 from deep while Fullerton shot 41.1-percent from the floor and went 5-of-14 from beyond the arc.
  • The Broncos dominated on the glass, outrebounding the Titans 48-28, including 24-10 on the offensive end. The boards led to a 23-13 edge in second chance points.
  • Santa Clara also held a 20-9 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • Tess Heal led all scorers with 22 points and was an efficient 9-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-4 from downtown. Olivia Pollerd was also efficient, scoring 19 on 8-of-15 shooting and grabbed eight rebounds as well. Jayde Cadee scored nine with Marya Hudgins adding eight points and a team-high eight rebounds. Lara Edmanson contributed eight points and seve rebounds as well.
  • Gabi Vidmar led the way on offense for Fullerton with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting. Ashlee Lewis added 13 and eight rebounds as well.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  •  Santa Clara's 11 nonconference wins are their most since 2007-08 when they also had 11.
 
NEXT UP
  • The Broncos are off until December 30 when they play their final nonconference game at Arizona State.
