Need To Know For 2023-24

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball will have their hands full this Saturday when they take on New Mexico (8-1) on neutral ground. The Broncos will take on the Lobos at the Jack Jones Classic held at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson, Nev. The game is slated for a 2:00 p.m. PT start.

The Broncos (7-2) are looking to return to form after suffering losses in two of their last three games, and a win over a very good New Mexico squad could be just what the doctor ordered. The Lobos, led by third-year head coach Richard Pitino, have one of the nation's top-25 scoring offenses, averaging 85.3 ppg. Sophomore guard Donovan Dent is averaging 17.1 ppg while freshman JT Toppin is the nation's second-most effective shooter at 74.2 percent.

This will be the eighth overall meeting between the programs. The Lobos hold a slim 4-3 lead in the series, but Santa Clara was the victor in the most recent meeting - a 79-76 overtime thriller on Nov. 24, 2011, in Anaheim, Calif. The Broncos are 2-0 against New Mexico on neutral courts.

Santa Clara is currently the second-best scoring team in the WCC at 79.2 ppg, trailing only Gonzaga (87.2). Carlos Marshall, Jr. (15.6) and Adama-Alpha Bal (14.8) are the top individual scorers on the squad and rank fourth and eighth, respectively, in the WCC. The Broncos have also fared well on the boards where they rank third in the conference in both rebounds per game (41.3) and rebound margin (+9.0).
