SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis signed Alexander Watanabe Eriksson, a transfer from UC Santa Barbara, and a two-time Swedish national champion to a National Letter-of-Intent.
Eriksson completed his freshman campaign last spring at UCSB where he appeared in two singles and eight doubles matches, helping the Gauchos win a share of the Big West regular season championship and win the Big West tournament championship to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. He will have three years of eligibility with the Broncos.
"I chose to continue my college tennis career at Santa Clara because of the great academics and development mentality that the players and coaches have," said Eriksson. "I want to get the most out of my tennis and push myself this upcoming three years and SCU feels like a perfect fit."
A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Eriksson won an ITF title in Malmo, Sweden in 2020. He was also the boys national champion in 2017 and 2018.
"When we first talked to Alex it was clear that he shared the same values that we hold within our program," said Broncos head coach
Niall Angus. "His work ethic, passion for the game, and tennis ability offers no doubt that he will make a significant impact during his time at Santa Clara. I am excited to work with Alex and can't wait to see him shine on both the singles and doubles court in the maroon and white."
