No. 3 Stanford Hands No. 12 Women's Soccer First Loss in Tight Contest

Box Score STANFORD, Calif. – Another tight game in Palo Alto ended with No. 12 women's soccer taking its first loss of the season 1-0 to No. 3 Stanford. Both teams created their chances but only the Cardinal could put one in the back of the net.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Stanford (7-0-1) struck in the 33rd minute off a failed clearance by the Santa Clara (6-1-2) defense. Jasmine Aikey got the ball to Andrea Kitahata just inside the box and she lifted her shot high and inside the far post.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara put five of their 12 shots on target. One shot hit the cross bar and another hit off the post. They also drew two corners
  • Marlee Nicolos made eight saves and snuffed out a few more Cardinal chances with aggressive play.
  • Ryan Campbell had five saves for Stanford.
  • The Broncos were without captain and starting center back Makoto Nezu who was servicing a one game suspension for a red card at Cal Poly.
