Women's Basketball Falls at No. 16 Gonzaga

Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – No. 16 Gonzaga was too much for Santa Clara women's basketball in an 87-49 defeat Thursday night from the Kennel. After an even first quarter, the Bulldogs pulled away in the second and kept stretching the lead through the end of the game.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • A 9-3 run early in the second started the downfall for Santa Clara (13-4, 1-1 WCC). Gonzaga (15-2, 2-0 WCC) would use two other 9-0 runs during the period to take a 19-point lead into halftime.
  • The third quarter saw the Zags extend their lead by 13 more before a relatively even fourth.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Gonzaga was hot from the field and finished at 59.6-percent and 45.5-percent from beyond the arc. Santa Clara was at 32.8-percent from the floor and 29.2-percent from downtown.
  • Tess Heal was the lone Bronco in double-digits with 10 points. Keeley Frawley was perfect from downtown going 3-of-3 for nine points and Danja Stafford had a team-high seven rebounds.
  • Yvonne Ejim led all scorers with 19 points and was perfect in her seven field goal attempts with four rebounds and four assists. Eliza Hollingsworth scored 18 and was 8-of-9 from the field with seven boards. Kayleigh Troung (13) and Brynna Maxwell (12) were also in double-figures.
