SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Santa Clara women's water polo opened up the 2024 season with a 10-5 victory over the CSU Monterey Bay Otters (0-4). Holding the advantage the whole game, the Broncos were led by senior Elle Fredrickson who finished with three goals. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The starting line-up for the Broncos (1-0) included Fredrickson, Kate Rodman, Maddie Clough, Megan Chambliss, Chloe Morrison, and Sydney Maccabe with Liyara Senadheera in the goal.  

• Santa Clara got on the board initially with a Clough goal in the first minute. Fredrickson quickly followed, and Clough was credited with the assist to put the Broncos up 2-0 to finish the first period. 

• As the Broncos secured a 5-0 lead in the second period, CSUMB added one goal just before the end of the half, bringing the score to 5-1. 

• Making moves in the third period, Kate Rodman scored her first goal of the year, giving the Broncos a 6-1 advantage. Morrison and Burks also found the net as they headed into the fourth leading 8-2. 

• In the fourth period, the Otters had some success, scoring consecutive goals and narrowing the gap to 10-5. However, it wasn't enough, as the Broncos secured the first victory of their season. 

• Senadheera started in goal and finished with 13 saves and two steals.

• The Broncos stay local for the Stanford Invitational, facing Cal State East Bay, Biola, and Stanford Feb. 3rd and 4th.
