Men's Soccer and Saint Mary's Play to a Goalless Draw

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's soccer and Saint Mary's combined for 23 shots but battled to a goalless draw in a West Coast Conference match on Saturday night inside Stevens Stadium - Buck Shaw Field.    

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Saint Mary's (1-6-5, 0-2-2 WCC) had a 14-9 advantage in shots including 5-4 on frame against Santa Clara (3-5-3, 0-1-2 WCC) but a goal proved elusive.  
  • Broncos goalkeeper Jack Stoecker made five saves while Gaels keeper Sam Bentley was credited with four.  Neither players were challenged by a particularly dangerous opportunity.  All of Stoecker's saves came in the second half to record his second straight shutout and his third this season.
  • Justin Sosa had a game-high four shots and three shots on goal.  
  • It was the second consecutive scoreless draw game for the Broncos who are still searching for their first WCC win of the season.  
NOTABLE NUMBERS / GAME NOTES: 
  • Santa Clara leads the series 44-12-8.
  • The Broncos have not conceded a goal in any of the three games that the reigning WCC Defensive Player of the Week Naji Elder has played in this year, spanning 259 minutes of action.
