Women's Soccer Drops Heartbreaker at North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – In heartbreaking fashion, Santa Clara women's soccer's season came to an end with a 1-0 loss at second-seeded North Carolina. The Broncos (13-4-4) held the mighty Tar Heels (18-5) offense at bay almost all night but in the waning seconds a ball found the net.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • With just 17 seconds on the clock, Carolina got a shot off that was saved but after some chaos in front of the net, Tessa Dellarose knocked in the game-winner.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara got off five shots with three being on target. Their best chance came in the first half when Mana Hayashi's penalty kick was saved.
  • Marlee Nicolos and the defense came up huge against the 10th ranked offense in the country. Nicolos finished the night with seven saves and had a huge game.
  • Claire Gagne made two saves for North Carolina.
