Box Score ESTERO, Fla. – Santa Clara women's basketball opened the Gulf Coast Showcase with a 79-50 loss to Butler. The Bulldogs (6-1) got off to a fast start and never looked back while the Broncos (3-3) couldn't get the offense going until the fourth quarter.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Olivia Pollerd scored the first seven for Santa Clara but picked up her second foul with the team down 10-7. Butler would close the period on a 16-4 run that included a stretch of 11 points in a row to take a 26-11 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
• The Bulldogs came out and scored the first 10 of the second quarter and closed the half on a 7-0 run to take a 46-17 lead into the locker room.
• The Broncos got a little offensive rhythm in the fourth and went on a 9-0 run but it just cut the lead to 25.

 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:

•  Santa Clara shot 43.8-percent from the field but struggled from deep, going just 4-of-18.
• Butler finished the day at 44.3-percent from the field and was 10-of-24 from beyond the arc.
• Turnovers plagued the Broncos, who committed 24 while forcing just nine. This allowed the Bulldogs a 29-12 edge in points off turnovers.
• Pollerd led Santa Clara with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting but played just 22 minutes due to foul trouble. Malia Latu added nine and Maddie Naro scored eight.
• Sydney Jaynes led all scorers with 16 with Riley Makalusky adding 13 and Ari Wiggins scoring 10.
