Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. – No. 11 Santa Clara women's soccer grinded out a 1-1 draw at San Diego on Wednesday night in the penultimate game of the regular season. The Toreros (3-11-5, 1-7-2 WCC) struck first in the second half but the Broncos (11-3-4, 5-1-3 WCC) had an answer. They continued to press the San Diego defense but couldn't come up with the game-winner.
 
With the result and the results around the conference, the Broncos sit tied atop the WCC standings with Pepperdine at 18 points. If the two teams finish tied, the tiebreaker goes to goal differential in the WCC, which the Broncos currently lead +14 to +10. Other outcomes are possible.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• In the 55th minute the Toreros got down the field and found Josefine Schlichting who was able to beat Marlee Nicolos one-on-one.
• After plenty of attack, Santa Clara finally broke through in the 71st. Kat Jordan ripped a shot that was saved by Aliya Garrett but she couldn't corral the rebound and Tori Powell stepped up to knock it into the back of the net.
• The Broncos kept the pressure on the rest of the game, creating chances over the final 18 minutes but the Torero defense and Garrett were able to bend but not break.

 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:

• Santa Clara outshot San Diego 23-5 and 12-2 in shots on goal. The shots were 17-3 in the second half.
• The Broncos also drew seven corners to just one for the Toreros.
• Nicolos finished the night with one save.
• Garrett ended up making 11 saves.
