SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Former Bronco men's basketball star and current color commentator for Santa Clara hoops ESPN+ broadcasts, Henry Caruso is among 16 athletes that have been invited to participate in the 2024 USA 3x3 Men's National Team training camp, which will be held Feb. 16-18 in Colorado Springs, Colo. The participant pool was selected by the USA Basketball Men's 3x3 National Team Committee and will be considered for future USA 3x3 national team assignments, including the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Caruso, who averaged 12.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in his lone season as a Bronco in 2017-18, has journeyed across the world throughout 2023-24, playing in many 3x3 events for the opportunity to advance to the training camp. In total, he traveled to 15 countries, including France, Croatia, Israel, China, the Netherlands and Saudi Arabia.
Caruso will be joined in Colorado Springs by 15 other finalists that bring a combination of USA Basketball, professional and collegiate experience. The participating field features Trey Bardsley, Canyon Barry, Charlie Brown Jr., Devin Cannady, Jimmer Fredette, Mitch Hahn, Justin Hamilton, Khalil Iverson, Jalen Lecque, Jeremy Lieberman, Kareem Maddox, Trey McGowens, James Parrott, Dylan Travis and Bryce Wills.
Eight of the 16 participants will be selected for consideration for national team opportunities. In addition to the 2024 Olympics, players will also be considered for spots on the 2024 USA 3x3 U23 Men's National Team and teams that compete on the 2024 FIBA 3x3 World Tour.
3x3 is played on a half-court with a 10-minute game clock and 12-second shot clock. Play is continuous, as teams "clear" the ball behind the 2-point line following a made basket, defensive rebound or steal. The first team to score 21 points via 1-point field goals or 2-pointers beyond the arc is the winner. If time expires prior to either team reaching 21 points, the team with the most points at the final buzzer wins.
