Women's Basketball Wins Senior Night Blowout

Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball rolled to an 86-45 win over LMU Thursday on Senior Night. The Broncos went on an early run and never looked back while getting things done on both ends of the floor.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Santa Clara (23-7, 11-4 WCC) took control almost immediately with an 11-0 run after LMU (10-17, 5-10 WCC) opened things with a 3-pointer. The Broncos would hold a 17-9 lead after the opening quarter.
  • A 9-0 run early in the second period stretched the lead 15 and a 17-2 run to end the period made it a 43-18 game at the half.
  • This were similar in the third quarter. Senior Lara Edmanson scored the team's first 10 points of the period and Tess Heal scored the next seven. The Broncos were up 33 headed to the fourth.
  • The lead would get to over 40 midway through the fourth during a 9-0 run.
 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara shot 56.1-percent from floor for the game and went 12-of-24 from downtown. LMU was held to just 29.1-percent from the field and were worse from deep, going 3-of-25.
  • Olivia Pollerd led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting and added four 3-pointers. Edmanson was 7of-8 from the field for a season-high 17 points. Tess Heal had a double-double with 15 points and a career-high-tying 10 assists.
  • Alexis Mark was the lone LMU player in double-figures with 19 and she added five rebounds. Amaya Oliver scored eight with six rebounds.
  • The Broncos held a 22-4 edge in points off turnovers.
  • Santa Clara had 25 assists on 32 made baskets.
  • All six healthy seniors saw minutes and all but one scored.
 
OTHER NOTES:
  • The Broncos now have 23 wins for the third time. It is the second most victories in a season in program history.
  • The win also locked up the No. 2 seed in the WCC Tournament next week. The top two seeds get a bye until the semifinals. It is Santa Clara's highest conference finish since also finishing second in 2008.
