Women's Basketball Selected to WBIT

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball is headed to the postseason for the first time since 2016. The Broncos were selected to the inaugural Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT) as a four seed and will host BYU Thursday at 6 p.m. This will be just the second postseason home game for Santa Clara, joining the first round of the 2000 WNIT.

Tickets can be purchased here. Ruff Riders can claim their tickets beginning tomorrow.

Santa Clara has posted the second-most wins in program history with 24, trailing only the 1990-91 team that went 28-3 and won the WNIT. The Broncos got it done at home and on the road, setting another program best with 11 road wins and went 12-1 (.923) at Leavey Center, the second-highest winning percentage at home in team history. It was also a successful season in the West Coast Conference, going 12-4 and finishing second in the league, the highest since 2007-08.

The team was led on offense by the duo of Tess Heal (628) and Olivia Pollerd (485) who have already set the program mark for a scoring duo with 1,103 combined points this season. Heal leads the way with 19.6 ppg with Pollerd averaging 15.2. Both were named First Team All-WCC.

Heal surpassed 1,000 career points in her 57th career game, the fastest Bronco to ever reach that plateau, and is 11 points behind the single-season program record of 639 set by Melissa King in 1991-92. She had a triple-double at Pepperdine and scored a career-high and program-high-tying 40 in the regular season finale at Pacific. She is fourth in the country with 186 free throws made, eighth with 212 attempted, and 24th at 87.7-percent. Heal also leads the team with 4.9 apg. Her play nabbed her six WCC Player of the Week honors.

Pollerd is seventh in the country with 93 3-pointers made, six behind the program record of 99 set by Alyssa Shoji in 2011-12, and sixth at 44.9-percent from beyond the arc. She went 36-of-58 over an eight-game stretch at one point this season.

Seven others average double-figure minutes for the Broncos, with one player just under, highlighting the team's depth. Marya Hudgins is third in scoring with 7.8 ppg and second with 5.5 rpg. Keeley Frawley leads the team with 5.8 rpg and Lara Edmanson finished the season with three-straight double-digit performances. Ashley Hiraki's 54 steals are a team-high and she moved into second place in program history with 191 in her career.
