DAVIS, Calif. – The Santa Clara softball team fell 9-5 to UC Santa Barbara on Saturday at the Capital Classic and were leading 8-3 over UC Davis in the top of the seventh before the game was halted due to darkness.  Game will resume on Sunday starting with the top of the seventh. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• UC Santa Barbara (4-11) got home runs from Emily Carr and Elicia Acosta while Emily McCostkey threw a complete game in the Gauchos 9-5 win over Santa Clara. 
• Santa Clara (8-9) put up a run in each of the first two frames against McCoskey to take an early 2-0 lead.
• In the first, Cairah Curran led the game off with an infield single and moved to third on a pair of ground outs before coming home on a wild pitch.  And in the second, Taryn Clements deposited the ball over the left field fence for her first career home run to double the Broncos lead.
• However, UCSB answered in the home half of the second inning on Carr's three-run home run to take the lead at 3-2 and never looked back.
• The Gauchos added four more runs in the fourth highlighted by Acosta's two-run homer to extend the lead to 7-2.
• Broncos starter Avery Seva was responsible for giving up all seven runs and dropped her record to 2-4.
• Clements added a three-run home run in the sixth to get the Broncos within two runs at 7-5 but UCSB added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth. 
• McCoskey scattered nine hits, gave up five runs and struck out four over seven innings to earn her first victory of the season.  

• On Sunday, Santa Clara will play Wagner at 9:30 a.m.  Following UC Davis' game against Wagner at noon, the Broncos will resume their game against UC Davis starting in the top of the seventh.
