Women's Water Polo Secured a Standout Win

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - In Thursday's 14-8 victory, the Santa Clara women's water polo team showcased tight defense and fluid offense against the Otters (4-17, 0-3). Elle Fredrickson led with five goals, marking her third time this season notching five goals in a single game.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Broncos (6-16, 1-2) started out with a quick 3-0 run, with goals from Megan Chambliss and two from Chloe Morrison. Just a minute before the first period ended, the Otters found the net, but Libby Slater responded, giving the Broncos a 4-1 lead at the end of the period.

  • CSUMB attempted to turn things around in the second period and managed to score two goals of their own while shutting down the Broncos' offense. The score at halftime favored the Broncos, 4-3.

  • Promptly in the third period, the Broncos won the sprint, and Fredrickson notched another goal. Just as Kate Rodman extended the score to 6-3, CSUMB scored two unanswered goals. With two minutes remaining in the third, Rodman, Fredrickson, and Maccabe all scored, extending the lead to a comfortable 9-5.

  • Fredrickson began the fourth period with the first goal again, and after more back-and-forth scoring, the Otters managed to score only three more goals. The fourth period featured action from Mia Barkett, who scored her first career goal, finalizing the game at 14-8.

  • Liyara Senadheera finished the day with eight saves.
