Carlos Stewart Returning To The Broncos For 2024-25

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - A familiar face is returning soon to the Santa Clara men's basketball roster. Carlos Stewart, a transfer guard from LSU who played his first two seasons with the Broncos, has officially signed with Santa Clara once again and will return to the program for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

"We are happy to welcome Carlos back!" head coach Herb Sendek said. "It will be great to see him in a Bronco uniform again."

Originally signing with the Broncos in 2021-22 out of Baton Rouge, La., where he won Gatorade State Player of the Year honors as a senior, Stewart played in 66 career games with 35 starts for Santa Clara in his two seasons in the red and white. After a promising freshman campaign, the 6-foot-1 guard exploded as a sophomore, starting all 33 games and earning First Team All-WCC honors. He was the team's second-leading scorer (behind Brandin Podziemski) with 15.2 points per game, which ranked 11th in the WCC, on 44.1 percent shooting. He also connected on 40.3 percent from beyond the arc and was a solid 83.2 percent at the charity stripe. Stewart notched 24 double-figure scoring outings, including 10 20-point games, with a high of 29 points against UC Irvine (12/15/22). Against league opponents, Stewart averaged 15.4 points per contest (10th in the league) and tied for the conference lead with 2.1 steals per game.

After the two-year stint, Stewart returned home to Baton Rouge to play for LSU in 2023-24. He played in 13 games, drawing nine starts, before suffering a season-ending knee injury in the SEC opener against Texas A&M. Prior to the injury, he averaged 19.4 minutes per game with an average of 4.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.0 assists.

Stewart rejoins the Broncos as a senior with one year of eligibility remaining.

With Stewart back in the fold, Santa Clara now has two of the last four Gatorade Louisiana Boys Basketball Players of the Year on their 2024-25 roster. Incoming freshman Allen Graves recently won the honor for 2023-24.
