Softball No-Hit By LMU in WCC Opener

LOS ANGELES – Jenna Perez pitched a five inning no-hitter and the LMU offense banged out 11 hits in the Lions' series opening 9-0 win over Santa Clara softball on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Perez (10-9) struck out 10 and walked two over five innings in her no-hit effort against the Broncos.  She threw 97 pitches with 64 of them for strikes.
  • LMU (19-21, 2-3 WCC) scored a run in the second and blew the game open with an eight-run third.
  • In the second, the Lions plated the first run on three-straight singles, the last one by Hayley Olivas.
  • The Lions sent 10-batters to the plate in the third.  Arianna Jaurequi had two hits in the inning including one to lead off the frame to get the offense rolling. Izzy Jamgotchian followed with a two-run home run off Broncos starter Hannah Edwards to make it 3-0.  Edwards and the Broncos could have limited the damage at three runs but an error kept the inning going.  LMU took advantage of the Bronco miscue and scored six more runs, all of which were unearned.
  • Jaurequi and Olivas each drove in a pair of runs in the third as the duo went a combined 5-for-5 with 5 RBIs.
  • For Santa Clara (21-17, 0-1 WCC), Edwards took the loss dropping to 9-4 on the year.
NEXT UP:
  • The Broncos and the Lions play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. PT.
