No. 55 Men's Tennis Win at Gonzaga to Secure WCC Tourney Spot

SPOKANE, Wash. – No. 55 Santa Clara men's tennis beat Gonzaga 4-1 in the final regular season match of the season to secure a spot in next week's West Coast Conference Tournament.  The Broncos improved to 4-4 in league play to finish fifth in the conference standings with the top six teams qualifying for the tournament. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Santa Clara (17-6, 4-4 WCC) narrowly won the doubles point and took three of the four singles matches including the clincher by Sebastian Buxman to defeat Gonzaga on the road.
  • The Broncos dropped the first doubles match but won the next two including a close 7-6 (7-5) win by Christian Lerby and Luca Lemaitre over Leon Roider and Pablo Gomez Galvan on court two to clinch the doubles point. 
  • Gonzaga (8-10, 3-5 WCC) evened the match at 1-all taking the first singles match on court four where Galvan defeated Lemaitre 6-2, 6-1.
  • SCU won the next three singles contests to close the match. 
  • On court five, Lukas Maskow beat Oscar Rashed 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), followed by Guillaume Dalmasso's triumph over Matthew Hollingworth with a pair of tiebreakers, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-2) on court two.
  • Buxman secured the Broncos victory by taking down Roider 6-4, 6-3 on court three.
NEXT UP:
  • Santa Clara will head down to San Diego to play in the opening round of the WCC Tournament starting on Thursday.
