SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara softball walked it off against Saint Mary's 2-1 on Abigail Charpentier's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning and took the West Coast Conference series, three games to one, on Sunday afternoon at SCU Softball Stadium.  

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• With the game knotted at 1-all, Charpentier roped a single down the left field line off Avrey Wolverton to score Rebecca Rubio from third base to send the Santa Clara (25-20, 4-4 WCC) squad into a frenzy. 
• Hannah Edwards (11-5) had a strong outing, tossing a five-hit complete game.  After giving up a run in the opening frame, an RBI double to Sam Buckley, Edwards blanked the Gaels (24-20, 4-4 WCC) the rest of the way.  She threw 84 pitches over seven frames, giving up the lone run, walked one and struck out four .
• Mia Nishikawa started inside the circle for the Gaels and threw four scoreless innings, coming off a seven inning shutout in the second game of the doubleheader the previous day. 
• In the fifth, Odhi Vasquez came in relief of Nishikawa and on the first pitch, Morgan Salmon cranked a home run to left to tie up the game.
• The Broncos placed the leadoff runner in five of the seven innings including the final inning when Rebecca Rubio singled.  She moved to second on Bailey McLaughlin's sacrifice bunt and to third on Hazyl Gray's liner to left before plating on Charpentier's walk-off single.
• The losing pitcher was Wolverton (3-6) who gave up the walk-off hit.
