LANGLEY, B.C. - Santa Clara men's basketball great Josip Vrankic is returning to his Canadian roots. The forward has officially signed with the Vancouver Bandits of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).
A native of Toronto, Canada, Vrankic joins the Bandits after very successful professional stints in both Italy and Spain. He currently plays for Fipuzkoa in the LEB Oro, which is the second-highest division of basketball in Spain. He has averaged 8.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game in 22.4 minutes of work this season. He will join Vancouver after the conclusion of Fipuzkoa's season.
Vrankic is among the most decorated players in Santa Clara's history as a four-time All-WCC selection, including back-to-back first team nods in his final two years. The big man started 131 games, the most in program history, and played 137 total games as a Bronco. He ranks third all-time on the Broncos' scoring list with 1,817 points and is inside the top 10 in rebounding (801).
Vancouver's season begins on Thursday, May 23. The season will consist of 20 total games from May until the end of July.
