Student-Athlete Awards Close Out 2023-24 for Bronco Athletics

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara Athletics paid tribute to its student-athletes with an awards ceremony Tuesday evening to cap off the 2023-24 year.
 
Jim Jennings Award
Jack Breslin (men's basketball)
 
This award is presented annually to one non student-athlete for his or her service to the athletics department. The award is in honor of Jim Jennings who served as a volunteer in Santa Clara Athletics for more than 20 years.
 
Jay Farwell Award
Casey Campbell (beach volleyball)
Calvin Fogler (men's rowing)
 
This award is presented annually to one male and one female senior student-athlete who have achieved academic excellence with the highest cumulative GPAs.
 
Inclusive Excellence Award
Leiora Davidon (softball
 
This award is presented annually to student-athletes who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the Santa Clara Athletics Department's goal of advancing excellence through diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging.
 
Jim Shea Award
Alyssa Jacobsen (women's water polo
Coleman Brigman (baseball)
 
This award is presented annually to one male and female student-athlete who has courageously led their team through selfless actions and been a leader in the campus community. Jim Shea was the first Santa Clara student-athlete whose life was cut short while serving in the Vietnam War.
 
DJ Frandsen Award

This award is presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete who used courage, perseverance and spirit to overcome adversity and now serve as a role model for inspiration. The award is in honor of former men's basketball manager David Frandsen Jr. who inspired many with his battle with cancer.
 
Marygrace Colby Award
Makoto Nezu (women's soccer)
 
This award is presented annually to one female senior student-athlete who best demonstrates the qualities of character, desire and competitive spirit. Mary Grace Colby was the first Women's Athletic Director, and was someone who made historic changes here at Santa Clara University.
 
Henry Schmidt Award
Muzzy Donohue (men's golf)
 
This award is presented annually to a male student-athlete who best demonstrates the qualities of character, desire and competitive spirit. Henry Schmidt was the first Santa Clara athletic trainer and a position he held for 50 years.
 
Carroll Williams Award
Sophia Tulino (volleyball)
Christian Lerby (men's tennis)
 
This award is presented annually to seniors who best define what it means to be a Santa Clara student-athlete. Someone who excels in the classroom and athletically, while making an outstanding contribution in community building. Carroll Williams served as Santa Clara's long-time basketball coach and athletic director.

This award is presented annually to an individual or team and represents a pinnacle achievement during the competition season.
