No. 59 Men's Tennis Falls in NIT Championship Semifinals

BRADENTON, Fla. – Top seed Tulsa took the doubles point and three of the first four singles matches to defeat Santa Clara men's tennis 4-1 in the semifinals of the UTR Sports NIT Championship on Tuesday morning.  The Broncos conclude the season with a 19-8 record, their most wins since 2011-12.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Gus Tettamble had a hand in clinching both the doubles point and the match for No. 68 Tulsa (17-13) as the top seed team in the tournament will move on to the finals of the NIT Championship on Wednesday against the winners of the Pacific-Liberty semifinals match.
  • Tettamble came back from a set down to defeat Alexander Watanabe Eriksson 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 on court six to clinch the 4-1 team victory.
  • Santa Clara (19-8) pushed the final three matches to three sets but Tettamble's contest was the first to finish among them.
  • Tulsa picked up the doubles taking the first two matches.  Tettamble and Timothy Seger downed Tiago Boschmans and Lukas Maskow 7-5 on court two to secure the doubles point.
  • The Broncos leveled the match at 1-all when Guillaume Dalmasso won Callum Gale 6-2, 6-2 to take the first singles match on court two.
  • The Golden Hurricane won the next three singles matches at courts five, one and six.
  • On court one, No. 115 Christian Lerby saved a match point to extend the second set to a tiebreaker but eventually lost 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) to Thiago Pernas as the Broncos fell behind 3-1 before Tettamble's clincher.
