Men’s Tennis Signs Two-Time State Champion from Texas

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara men's tennis program signed a two-time individual and team state champion (private school) from Texas in Mahir Khurana to the 2024 recruiting class.

Khurana is also a two-time Texas Slam finalist and reached a ranking of No. 4 in Texas while playing at The John Cooper School, in The Woodlands, Texas.

"Santa Clara is the perfect fit for me to pursue my tennis career and academic goals," said Khurana.  "The program's dedication to excellence in both athletics and academics aligns perfectly with my ambitions. The opportunity to be part of a team known for its supportive environment and strong camaraderie is incredibly appealing.  Moreover, the university's commitment to holistic development ensures that I'll not only grow as a tennis player but also as a well-rounded individual ready to take on future challenges. The beautiful campus and vibrant community add to the appeal, making Santa Clara the ideal place for me to thrive both on and off the tennis court."

The two-sport athlete was named Houston Chronicle Player of the Year after leading the Draco to back-to-back individual and team Southern Preparatory Conference (SPC) championships.

Khurana also ran track where he recorded personal records of 4:40 in the mile, 2:02 in the 800M and 52 seconds in the 400M.

"I am delighted that Mahir has made the decision to join the Bronco family," said Broncos head coach Niall Angus.  "His passion for the game and work ethic are exactly what we look for during the recruiting process and I am excited to start working with him. We have a young group with high potential and Mahir will mirror those characteristics."
