The Santa Clara University women's water polo team landed a program-record 17 of its student-athletes on the 2024 Golden Coast Conference All-Academic Team Wednesday, tied for second-most in the conference.
Â
The Broncos (7-22 in 2024) were only two student-athletes behind San Diego State (19) for the most in the conference and tied with Pacific, who also had 17. Santa Clara's previous high in GCC All-Academic Team members was 15 in 2020. The Broncos had 14 recognized in each of the past three seasons (2023, '22 and '21).
Â
Five of the program's seven true freshman made the team, which requires not only a 3.0 minimum cumulative Grade Point Average, but also playing in at least 50% of the team's contests. Utility player
Calla Troxel led the way for the rookies with a 3.727 GPA in her psychology major.
Mia Barkett,
Annika Burks,
Evelyn McLaughlin and
Airi Seib joined their classmates on the team.
Â
The overall highest cumulative GPA on the team belonged to senior two-meter defender
Chloe Morrison, who carried a 3.936 GPA in her psychology major and graduated in the winter.
Libby Slater had a 3.832 cumulative GPA in communication,
Nina Damjanac posted a 3.748 in finance,
