SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Santa Clara men's golf alum Matt McCarty has punched his ticket to the PGA Tour following his first-career victory on the Korn Ferry Tour. The three-time All-WCC selection is set to become only the second Bronco to ever play on the Tour.
McCarty earned his PGA Tour Card for 2025 after an outstanding showing at the Price Cutter Charity Championship where he claimed the title with a three-stroke victory at 25-under 263. The victory was just the latest in a string of great turnouts on the Korn Ferry Tour by the Scottsdale, Ariz., product, including four top-10 finishes during the year and a current stretch of six-straight made cuts. McCarty's victory came in his 68th-career start and third overall season on the Korn Ferry Tour and moved him up from No. 22 to No. 7 in the Korn Ferry Tour Points List. PGA Tour membership is offered for the following season to players who finish highest in the season-long points list with a total of 30 cards issued out at the end of the tour in October. By moving up the seventh place, McCarty has guaranteed himself a card for 2025.
"The Santa Clara Family could not be more proud of Matt," said Santa Clara Men's Golf Head Coach
Andrew Larkin. "He's been building towards this since he got to Santa Clara. He's improved every year at school and since graduation and the best is yet to come for him. It is also great to see Matt take on this journey with former Bronco teammate Dev Das as his caddy. We cannot wait to see our Broncos on tour in 2025."
McCarty, who starred for the Broncos from 2017-2021, does have previous PGA Tour experience having qualified for the 2022 US Open. Now as a full-fledged member, he will join Santa Clara great Jim Wiechers as the lone Bronco Alums to play on the Tour. Wiechers had a lengthy stay in the Tour ranks from 1966-79 during which he tallied one victory and qualified for the Masters, US Open and PGA Championship.
