Dominant Second Half Lifts No. 22 Women's Soccer to 4-0 Win at San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. – No. 22 Santa Clara women's soccer opened its season with a commanding 4-0 win over San Jose State Thursday night. After a slow first half, the Broncos (1-0) took over in the second 45 to pull away from the Spartans (0-1).

NOTABLE NUMBERS:
  • Santa Clara held a 16-9 advantage in shots and a 9-6 in shots on goal.
  • Kennedy Schoennauer had her first brace as her first Santa Clara goals, the second and third goals of her collegiate career. Lauren Hunter also scored her first collegiate goal.
  • All 23 healthy field players saw minutes.
  • Transfers Shira Elinav, Caroline Gray, Kat Jordan, Marissa Vasquez, and Schoennauer made their Santa Clara debut while freshman Mana Hayashi, Ava Weiland, Daniela Cervantes, Tessa Ferguson, Hunter, and Stella Villalta made their collegiate debuts. Also debuting was redshirt freshman Abby Kiil and senior Lauren Zontos. A total of 13 players saw their first action for the Broncos.
  • The Broncos are now 22-0 all-time against San Jose State and have won 10 of their last 11 season-openers.
  • This was the team's largest opening day win since also beating the Spartans 4-0 on the road in 2009.
