Men's Tennis With Convincing Win over Sacramento State in Spring Opener

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara men's tennis kicked off the 2025 spring season with a convincing 6-1 victory over Sacramento State under sunny skies at the Degheri Tennis Center on Thursday.  The Broncos took the first six team points and dropped just two sets in the match.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Alexander Watanabe Eriksson clinched the match on court two for Santa Clara (1-0) when he defeated Gur Libal 6-2, 6-3 securing the team's third straight singles win after taking the doubles point.  
  • Watanabe Eriksson teamed up with Lukas Maskow in doubles action and made quick work deposing Martin Duris and Miles Whitehead on court three 6-1.  That was followed by the doubles point clincher from John Kim and Luca Bluett over Jayden Rand and Henry Lamchinniah, 6-4, on court one. 
  • Tiago Boschmans picked up the first singles victory for SCU blanking Whitehead 6-0, 6-0 on court six to put the Broncos up 2-0 on the team scoreboard. 
  • Kim made it 3-0 in favor of the Broncos when he took down Duris 6-4, 6-1 on court five.
  • After the clincher by Watanabe Eriksson, Bluett and Valentin Faure won their singles matches.  
  • Sacramento State (0-1) got their lone point when Lamchinniah beat Maskow in three sets atop the lineup.   
  • Bluett, Faure and Kim each made their spring debut for the Broncos.  
NEXT UP:
  • Santa Clara will travel to Eugene, Oregon to take on the University of Oregon from the Big Ten Conference on Sunday.  First serve is at 10 a.m. PT.
