Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. – A bad day shooting the ball led to a 74-47 loss for Santa Clara women's basketball to Washington State Saturday afternoon. The Broncos (9-11, 3-7 WCC) went ice cold starting the second quarter and the Cougars (12-8, 7-2 WCC) took advantage by pulling away before halftime.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:

• Washington State used a 10-2 run in the first quarter to get out in front 12-6. Maddie Naro scored the final five of the first quarter for Santa Clara, but the Broncos trailed 17-14 after the opening 10 minutes.
• A brutal second quarter saw the Cougars build a big lead. They scored the first seven of the period, five from the free throw line, and followed a Santa Clara bucket with a 9-0 run. After a free throw for the Broncos, Washington State scored the final six of the half to go into the locker room up 39-17.
• Things didn't get much better for the Broncos in the third quarter as they went 4-of-18 from the field but took advantage at the free throw line, going 8-for-10. It wasn't enough as the Cougars lead grew to 59-33 after the period.
• The fourth quarter was a bit better for the Broncos as they went 5-of-12 shooting but it wasn't enough.

 
NOTABLE NUMBERS:

• Santa Clara shot 26.2-percent for the day and went 2-of-18 from beyond the arc. In the second quarter they were just 1-of-14 from the field and 0-of-6 from downtown.
• Washington State shot 46.7-percent from the field and was 2-of-16 from downtown.
• Malia Latu led the Broncos with 15 points and added five rebounds. Olivia Pollerd finished the day with 12 points and six rebounds. Maddie Naro added eight points and Kaya Ingram scored seven.
• Alex Covill led all scorers with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting. Eleonora Villa was the only other Cougar in double figures with 12 on 6-of-12 shooting. Candace Kpetikou scored 10 with six rebounds and Dayana Medes scored nine with eight boards.
