Women's Tennis Rolls Past Academy of Art

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis blanked a shorthanded Academy of Art squad 7-0 on a chilly Sunday at the Degheri Tennis Center to improve to 2-0 on the season.  The Academy of Art was able to field only four players as SCU was credited with walkover wins at doubles court three as well as at singles five and six.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Santa Clara (2-0) needed just one win in doubles to clinch the point given the walkover win on court three which was credited to Kacey Feng and Anna Rahman.  The Bronco duo of Daniella Dimitrova and Tian Yu Dong delivered the doubles point clincher with a 6-1 triumph over Estelle Najean and Georgiana Parr on court two.
  • The walkover wins on singles court five and six were credited to Juliette Krumholz and Jamie Pope, respectively, to put the Broncos up 3-0 on the team scoreboard.
  • Needing just one singles win to clinch the match, Anna Rahman was the first to do so beating Parr 6-1, 6-0 on court four.
  • Dong, Dimitrova and Velizara Fileva also earned singled wins.
  • The match counted as an exhibition for the Academy of Art (0-0) while it counted as an official match for Santa Clara.
NEXT UP:
  • The Broncos head down to San Luis Obispo, California to face Montana State on Saturday in a neutral site match before taking on host, Cal Poly, on Sunday.
