Tyeree Bryan Earns Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week Honors

INDIANAPOLIS – A day after being named the West Coast's Conference's Co-Player of the Week, Santa Clara senior guard Tyeree Bryan has been honored once again for his outstanding performance against No. 16 Gonzaga. Bryan has been named one of five Oscar Robertson National Players of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA).

The USBWA has held a national player of the week program that is affiliated with the Oscar Robertson Trophy since the 2009-10 season. Prior to last season, the USWBA had recognized just one player each week. That number was expanded to five players in 2023-24 and has continued into this season. A panel of designated USBWA board members selects the five standouts among the 31 Division I conference players of the week.

This is the first time in the history of the award (since 2009-10) that Santa Clara has had a player recognized as national player of the week.

Bryan earns one of the five spots for the week of games ending on Jan. 19. The Orlando native put on a performance that Bronco fans are not likely to forget to help Santa Clara knockoff No. 16 Gonzaga, 103-99, in Spokane for their first victory inside the McCarthey Athletic Center since 2007. Bryan scored 35 points on 13-of-21 shooting, including an incredible 7-of-12 mark from 3-point range – tied for the third most treys in program history.

Bryan's point total is tied for the second-most an opposing player has ever scored against Gonzaga inside the Kennel and is the most by a Bronco since Brandin Podziemski scored 38 against Pacific on Jan. 25, 2023.

"Tyeree had an outstanding game and came up huge for us moment after moment," head coach Herb Sendek said. "His 3-point shooting plus a great defensive effort was a big reason why we were able to win that game. This award is also a testament to the entire team and their incredible performance in a hostile environment."

Entering the game, Bryan's season high was 18 points. He tied that tally in the first half alone and then tacked on 17 more on a sensational 5-of-6 3-point shooting in the final 20 minutes. His final trey of the evening came with 43 seconds remaining and pushed the lead to six to help shut the door on the Bulldogs' furious comeback bid.

Bryan added seven rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals, both of which he took the length of the floor for dunks.

The other four players honored alongside Bryan for this week's honor were Rashsool Diggins (UMass), Hunter Sallis (Wake Forest), Javon Small (West Virginia) and Earl Timberlake (Bryant).

Bryan and the Broncos return to action this Thursday inside the Leavey Center where they will host Washington State. Tip is slated for 8:00 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on CBS Sports Network.
