Men's Cross Country Grabs Top-Five Finish at Bronco Invite

Liam Papavasiliou was Santa Clara's top individual finisher Saturday, placing 23rd.

SUNNYVALE, Calif. — Santa Clara men's cross country turned in a steady team performance at its annual home meet Saturday, grabbing its fourth top-five team finish of the season at the Bronco Invitational at Baylands Regional Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Freshman Liam Papavasiliou led the Broncos with a 23rd-place finish in 24:32.4, followed by Jacob McManus (31st, 24:43.2) and Evan Charkut (32nd, 24:44.2). Eric Ortega-Gammill (40th, 24:51.4) and Andrew Ho (59th, 25:04.9) completed the team's scoring five.
Santa Clara also featured a deep lineup with William Carroll (63rd, 25:12.0), James Estrella (69th, 25:16.4), Antonio Camacho-Bucks (78th, 25:26.0), James Ponzio (79th, 25:26.1), and Jack Kyle (82nd, 25:32.5) all among the top 85 finishers. Nico Trepanier (109th), Jude Alvarez (110th), and Inbaa Chennai (111th) also competed for the Broncos.
Santa Clara scored 127 points to place fifth among 18 teams. That included beating West Coast Conference foes San Francisco (10th), Seattle (14th) and Saint Mary's (16th). Long Beach State claimed the men's team title with 65 points, while UC Santa Barbara's Zachary Parker won the individual race in 23:43.4.

COMING UP

The Broncos will take one weekend off before competing at the 2025 WCC Championship on Nov. 1, hosted by Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash.
