SANTA CLARA, Calif. – An offensive outburst propelled by braces from Will Wiersdorf and Jaiden Windell's gave Santa Clara men's soccer a convincing 5-2 win over Pacific in the season finale on a rainy Saturday night at Stevens Stadium. Wiersdorf scored the go-ahead goal in the 61st minute to break a 2-2 tie and later added an assist on final goal to assure the Broncos a winning overall record at 6-5-7 including 3-3-3 in West Coast Conference action for the 2025 season. Six Bronco seniors - PIerce Dyal, Naji Elder, Baronyi Kengeye, Eduardo Marin Jackson Ozburn, Spencer Roberts - were recognized in a pregame ceremony as each saw playing time to close our their careers on the Mission Campus.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Santa Clara (6-5-7, 3-3-3 WCC) scored a season-high five goals eclipsing the four they scored against UNLV back on Sept. 14.
- Jacob Heisner put Pacific (4-14, 1-8 WCC) on the board first in the 10th minute but the Broncos turned it around on goals by Windell and Wiersdorf in the 37th and 40th minutes. Just before the half, Luca Baltzer got the equalizer as the two teams went to the intermission tied at 2-all.
- In the second half, the SCU offense exploded for three goals over a six minute span.
- Wiersdorf tallied his second goal of the game at the 61st minute mark assisted by Simon Diagana and Niv Berkovitz in what turned out to be the game winner. The junior from Danville, California scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season to tie atop the team lead along with Berkovitz.
- Ninety seconds later, Windell got his second tally of the game to put the Broncos up by two goals, 4-2. It was assisted by Yu Yokokawa and another by Berkovitz, his third of the game.
- James Wangsness closed out the scoring for the Broncos with his first goal of the season on an assist by Wiersdorf.
- Berkovitz finished the game with three assists to close out the season as the Broncos top point getter with 16 points on six goals and four assists, while Wiersdorf finished a point behind with six goals and three assists.
- Five seniors - Dyal, Elder, Kengeye, Ozburn and Roberts - got a starting nod but in the final five minutes, Marin came off the bench to a rousing ovation from the fans who braved the weather. Marin was credited with a save as he saw his first action since coming back from a life altering accident back in the fall of 2023.
