Women's Basketball Beats Lindenwood in Hawaii

HONOLULU – Santa Clara women's basketball opened the American Savings Bank Rainbow Wahine Showdown with an 84-70 win over Linwood Friday afternoon. The game was close through the first half, but the Broncos (6-2) put some distance between themselves and the Lions (4-2) in the third quarter and closed out the victory in Hawaii.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The two teams went back and forth in the first quarter with both having 6-0 runs that put them in the lead. During the Broncos run, they tied the score at the 5:02 mark and wouldn't trail again all day, leading 20-16 after the period.
  • Five in a row for Linwood early in the second quarter tied the game at 24-all before Kylee Fox's 3-pointer gave Santa Clara the lead for good. A 7-0 run, started by another triple from Fox, stretched the Bronco lead to eight and they would be up 39-24 at the half.
  • A 6-0 run over 69 seconds midway through the third got Santa Clara's lead out to double-figures for the first time. The Broncos would close the quarter with the final seven points to build a 63-47 lead.
  • Early in the fourth quarter, a 7-0 run made it a game-high 25-point lead. The Lions answered back with seven in a row of their own and finished the game with an 18-7 stretch that was too little too late,
