Men's Water Polo Inks Italian Standout di Corato

Mattia di Corato has represented Italy on the international stage in numerous regional and world championships.
SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The Santa Clara University men's water polo program has added another elite international talent to its future roster, with the signing of Italian standout Mattia di Corato to a National Letter of Intent. Di Corato is set to begin his collegiate career with the Broncos in fall 2026.

A 6-foot-7 center from Monza, Italy, di Corato brings high-level experience both domestically and internationally. He has competed in four international tournaments as part of Italy's national youth team — including two European Championships and two World Championships. In July, he played in the U20 World Championship in Zagreb, Croatia, and helped Italy to a fourth-place finish at the 2024 U18 World Championship in Buenos Aires.

"We are very excited to have Mattia join our team next year," said Santa Clara head coach Keith Wilbur. "He is an extremely talented player capable of playing multiple positions who will bring a ton of international experience to our program.

"Mattia also really complements the other commits in next year's recruit class, and we see him making a huge impact on our program going forward."

Di Corato currently plays for Roma Vis Nova, a first-division A1 team based in the Italian capital of Rome, where he is in his second year with the club. The team finished seventh in the Italian championship during the 2023–24 season. At the youth level, he helped lead Roma Vis Nova's U18 team to a third-place national finish in 2025.

In addition to his club and international résumé, di Corato was recently called up to a training camp with the Italian Senior National Team.

He will join fellow Italian and current Bronco standout Riccardo De Simon (Bologna, Italy) on the Santa Clara roster. De Simon, a sophomore, has already earned honorable mention All-America honors, two all-West Coast Conference nods (including a first team accolade this fall), and collected five WCC weekly awards in two seasons with the program.
