Women's Basketball Wins Nonconference Finale at North Texas

DENTON, Texas – Santa Clara women's basketball closed out its nonconference schedule with a xxx win at North Texas. The Broncos (10-3) were up big at the half, but the Mean Green (6-5) made it a game with a big third quarter and got within five in the fourth before a late run put the game away.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Up by four midway through the first quarter, Santa Clara closed the period on an 11-0 run to take a 23-8 lead after one.
  • The Broncos built their lead to 20 for the first time at 7:46 in the second quarter before a 6-0 run by North Texas. Santa Clara responded with the next nine, the final six coming from Sophie Glancey, to take a 23-point lead. The Broncos would head into the locker room on top 44-20.
  • Things turned around in the third as a 13-2 run in the early going gave the Mean Green belief as they cut the deficit down to 49-33. They continued to chip away and a 7-0 run later in the quarter cut the Broncos lead to single-digits at 56-49. Santa Clara managed to get the advantage back to 62-51 by the end of the third.
  • North Texas got the lead under 10 again with a 7-0 run at the 6:31 mark of the fourth and would get as close as 73-68 at 4:11 with another 7-0 stretch, but the Broncos answered with seven in a row of their own, including the final five by Kylee Fox to make it a 12-point edge with 2:37 to go. The Mean Green wouldn't get the deficit under 10 the rest of the way.

Sophie Glancey had her third double-double, and second in her last three games, with 19 points and 13 rebounds to go along with four blocks. Maia Jones just missed a double-double as well with 15 points and nine boards while Ava Schmidt scored 15 with a career high five blocks.
