Elijah Mahi Named WCC Player of the Week

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Santa Clara men's basketball senior Elijah Mahi has been honored by the West Coast Conference as the league's Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 29. It is Mahi's first weekly honor of the season and second of his Bronco career.

Mahi turned in a season-high 23 points on 8-of-13 shooting, including a career-high 5-of-7 from 3-point range, to help the Broncos blowout Oregon State 102-64 in Corvallis in both teams' conference opener on Dec. 28th. The Toronto native also pulled down six rebounds, dished out a pair of assists and had a steal in the winning effort. The win was Santa Clara's ninth-consecutive in WCC openers and the 38-point margin of victory is tied for the sixth-largest in a road game in program history.

Mahi has scored 20 or more in back-to-back games, tallying 21 against Loyola Chicago, and has scored 10 or more in eight consecutive games. He leads the team with 12 double figure scoring games overall and his 15.0 points per game ranks 10th-best in the WCC.

Mahi is Santa Clara's first WCC Player of the Week winner of the season and their first since he himself won the award for the week of Feb. 10 last season. He is the second Bronco to win a weekly award from the conference office this season with Allen Graves taking home Freshman of the Week honors earlier this month
