Women's Basketball Wins Sixth in a Row With Commanding Performance Against Seattle

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's basketball won its sixth in a row with a 94-65 victory over Seattle Tuesday night. The Red Hawks (4-9, 0-2 WCC) were right there in the first quarter thanks to some hot shooting, but the Broncos (12-3, 2-0 WCC) stepped up the defense after that, and their high-powered offense put some distance between the two teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Santa Clara jumped out to a lead to start the game, but Seattle hung around thanks to red hot shooting, going 10-of-14 from the field and 3-of-4 from downtown in the first quarter. The Red Hawk's hot stretch was capped with a 7-0 run later in the period to take a 21-17 lead. The Broncos would battle back and take 27-25 lead at the end of the first thanks to Sophie Glancey's 3-pointer in the waning seconds.
  • Seattle tied it up to begin the second, but Santa Clara followed with an 11-2 run, featuring 3-pointers from three different players, that put the Broncos up nine. Things cooled down for a while before Santa Clara finished the half on an 8-2 run that gave them a 50-37 lead heading into the locker room.
  • A 7-0 run early in the third got the Broncos lead out to 18 and got it to 20 for the first time midway through the quarter. They would lead 73-51 at the end of the period.
  • The lead hung around 20 for most of the fourth but Seattle's last points came on an and-one with 4:55 left in the game and Santa Clara closed things out with a 10-0 run.
