Roa Extends Win Streak to Eight in Women's Tennis Loss to No. 12 Stanford

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Santa Clara women's tennis team showed grit in their 6-1 loss to No. 12 Stanford in a drizzle affected match on Wednesday afternoon at the Degheri Tennis Center.  The match lasted a total of five and a half hours with a couple of rain delays in between.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • While the team score was 6-1 in favor of Stanford (5-2), the Broncos battled the 12th-ranked Cardinal in both doubles and singles.
  • Stanford won the first two doubles matches to clinch the team point when Valencia Xu and Chidimma Okpara beat Tian Yu Dong and Daniella Dimitrova 6-3 on court two.  With the two teams deciding to play out all the doubles and singles matches, the Bronco duo of Kacey Feng and Anna Rahman took advantage of the opportunity to defeat Morgan Shaffer and Emma Sun 7-6 (7-5) on court three.
  • The Cardinal took the first two singles matches to go up 3-0 but SCU won the first set in three of the remaining four singles matches.
  • Emma Sun secured the team victory for Stanford when she beat Jamie Pope, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 on court six to put them up 4-0 on the team score.
  • Playing atop the lineup, Dimitrova pushed No. 8-ranked Valerie Glozman before eventually falling in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.
  • Jillian Roa took the lone point for Santa Clara, defeating Chidimma Okpara 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-4) on court four to win her eighth straight match this spring.
  • Santa Clara fell to 6-3 on the season.
