Women's Tennis Falls to No. 60 Sacramento State

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – No. 60 Sacramento State remained undefeated on the year, defeating Santa Clara women's tennis 7-0 on Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Sacramento State (7-0) blanked Santa Clara (6-4) including the match clincher by Palina Saulevich at No. 6, defeating Jamie Pope 7-5, 6-3. 
  • The two teams split the first two doubles matches but the Hornets claimed the doubles point at No. 2.  Maddy Ferreros and Irene Riva downed Daniella Dimitrova and Anna Rahman 6-3 to put Sacramento State up 1-0 on the team tally. 
  • Elena Mercioiu made it 2-0 in favor of Sacramento State with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Juliette Krumholz at No. 5.  Lou Baudouin followed with a 6-2, 6-4 beating of Tian Yu Dong at No. 2 to give the Hornets a 3-0 advantage.  
  • After Saulevich's clincher, the remaining matches played out.  That included Jillian Roa's loss to Reese Walker at No. 3 to snap Roa's eight match win streak.  It was the first match playing at No. 3 for Roa this season moving up the lineup from her customary No. 4 spot.
