Women's Tennis Tops UC Irvine on the Road

IRVINE, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis picked up a road victory defeating UC Irvine 5-2 on Saturday to improve to 4-1 on the season.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Jillian Roa delivered the match clincher and was one of three Broncos - along with Daniella Dimitrova and Velizara Fileva - to win both their singles and doubles matches.  
  • Santa Clara (4-1) took the doubles point for the third time this season.  Roa and Fileva downed Amanda Perez and Nour Khayat 6-2 atop the lineup and Dimitrova and Tian Yu Dong handled Kayla Meraz and Carolyna Fowler 6-1 on court two to put the Broncos up 1-0 on the team score.  
  • In singles, Fileva handily beat Perez 6-1, 6-1 on court three to put the Broncos up 2-0.  
  • UC Irvine (0-3) won the next singles match on court two before Dimitrova beat Meraz 6-3, 6-1 on court one to give SCU a 3-1 cushion. 
  • Roa locked up the team victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Bella Pitchford on court four.  
  • Anna Rahman also picked up a win after the match was clinched.  
NEXT UP:
  • The Broncos stay in the Los Angeles area and play CSUN on Sunday at noon.
