Women's Tennis Narrowly Edged by Cal State Fullerton

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Santa Clara women's tennis was narrowly edged out by Cal State Fullerton 4-3 on Saturday at the Degheri Tennis Center.    

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Milena Gevorgyan secured the team victory for Cal State Fullerton (4-3) when she took down Jillian Roa 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) on court four.  It was the first defeat suffered by Roa on court four all season after having won nine straight matches from that spot in the lineup.  Gevorgyan's effort clinched the Titans' win at 4-2.
  • Santa Clara (6-6) has now lost four straight matches and in each of them, they have failed to get the doubles point.  
  • The Broncos and the Titans split the first two doubles matches.  Gevorgyan teamed up with Sein Myoung atop the lineup to down Roa and Fileva 7-5 to put Fullerton up 1-0 in the team score. 
  • In singles, Juliette Krumholz evened the team score at 1-all, beating Dana Kunza 6-1, 6-2 on court six. 
  • The Titans won the next two matches on courts one and two to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Anna Rahman narrowed the gap with her court five win over Kaytlin tyalor 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.  
  • Roa looked to push her match to a third set but lost the tiebreaker in the second set, giving the Titans the team victory.  
  • The match played out with Fileva winning her match in a third set super-set on court three for the final score of 4-3.
